2022 LEAP Awards

The 2022 LEAP (Leadership in Engineering Achievement Program) Awards were announced by WTWH Media on October 18, and ARRIS won Silver in the Additive Manufacturing category.

On Tuesday, October 18th, Design World announced the winners of the 2022 LEAP Awards (Leadership in Engineering Achievement Program), AND the ARRIS team is proud to have been awarded Silver in the Additive Manufacturing category!

“What sets this awards program apart from so many others is the involvement of the engineering community,” Paul Heney wrote in an article posted just before the winners were announced. Heney has been the Editorial Director with DesignWorld for more than a decade. “As we do every year, our editorial team assembles a top-notch independent judging panel, comprised of a cross-section of OEM design engineers and academics—14 professionals in total. No one here at WTWH Media chooses the winners; we leave that to the judges, to keep the process ethical and genuine.” Click through to learn more about the judges.

ARRIS earned Silver for its publicly known work with Airbus. Last year, ARRIS revealed a collaboration with Airbus aimed at demonstrating significant reductions in aviation emissions with a first-of-its-kind composites technology (Additive Molding). By replacing a metal bracket (220g) with a topology-optimized, 3D-aligned continuous fiber composite part (50g), weight savings of more than 75% could be achieved, translating into major fuel savings because hundreds of these brackets are part of a single aircraft.

“Airbus is on a path toward cleaner, more sustainable air travel within our lifetime, and it takes exploring disruptive ideas with a substantial impact and practical application to make that change,” said Bastian Schäfer, Innovation Manager at Airbus. “The way we design and manufacture airplanes is changing because of emerging technology companies like ARRIS who share and enable our vision of better air travel. We’ve known that biomimicry, topology optimization, and advanced composites are the future, and ARRIS is helping us bring together these design and material ideals to manufacture the future of flight today.”

Thank you to the judges, and thanks to the DesignWorld team for hosting its annual Leadership in Engineering Achievement Program that brings recognition to many incredible engineering teams across industries.
